People all over the world watch the Olympic Games on TV, cheer on their nations’ athletes, and get into the spirit of friendly international competition. Yet how many people know how these games came about and why they were created? Why is there an Olympic torch? What does the flag with the colored rings represent? Looking back in time a few millennia can answer those questions.

Let’s learn a little more about the Olympics through this short clip on BrainPOP. Talk about some of the events that you may find in the Olympics today. Which one is your favorite?

Make your own olympic rings, or medals. Talk about the shapes, and colors used. Work on how to measure the string for the medals to hang on, or how big the circles are.

Try one of these projects and draw your own set of Olympic Rings or create your own symbol and its meaning.  

First, have your child do some warm up stretches: 10-15 arm circles (front and backwards), 15 jumping jacks, running in place for 30 seconds, 10 leg squats, 10 push ups and sit ups then go to GoNoodle and have your child pick a couple of PE/Dance videos. 

The 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo have been rescheduled to July 2021. Plan, create, and participate in your own Wacky Family Summer Olympics.

Let’s bring our art to life with these fizzy olympic rings! try this out side, you can even add a white piece of construction paper (thick paper) under the baking soda rings. Watch what happens when you add the colored vinegar! When you dump off the baking soda in the trash did it leave any imprints on the paper? did any colors mix? what happened?
