Watch the video Growth Mindset Introduction: What it is, How it Works, and Why it Matters 

  • How can having a growth mindset benefit you?
  • Is having a growth mindset only helpful when it comes to school?

Do a 3-2-1 Exercise based on what you’ve learned so far this week or last week. The 3-2-1 exercise is one of the growth mindset activities for kids. 3-2-1 consists of asking students to consider the following questions at the end of a day or week:

– What are 3 things I’ve learned?
– What are the 2 things I want to learn
– That is 1 question I still have?

Carol Dweck is credited with coining the term “growth mindset”  Read an excerpt from her book Mindset:

Then watch Carol Dweck’s TedTalk Developing a Growth Mindset with Carol Dweck.

Consider and discuss with a friend/parent/teacher the different responses to the failure of both the growth mindset and fixed mindset. 

Consider and discuss how changing your vocabulary to include “yet” and “not yet” can change your way of thinking.

Explain

Create a poster to demonstrate the difference between growth and fixed mindset. See the example below:

Read and consider the article 15 Ways to Build a Growth Mindset.  

What are some strategies you would put in place to create a growth mindset for yourself?
