Scientific notation

Scientific Notation helps write large numbers in a shorter format. For example, it helps write the numbers that represent the vast distances in space! Watch this video and try writing some of these examples in scientific notation:

  1. The population of the world is about 7,117,000,000.
  2. The distance from Earth to the Sun is about 92,960,000 miles.
  3. The human body contains approximately 60,000,000,000,000 to
    90,000,000,000,000 cells.
  4. The mass of a particle of dust is 0.000000000753 kg.

Aril 7th will be a Super Moon. Go outside tonight and look toward the east. The moon will start to rise at about 7:30pm and will be at it’s highest point in the sky at midnight. Learn about Moon Phases by watching this short BrainPop video. Read one or more of the Related Readings from the BrainPop site to learn even more about the Moon.
